5 Borough Bagels will open an express location on March 1
The Clive bagel store that brought a taste of New York City to Iowa is expanding.
Five Borough Bagels, which opened at 13435 University Ave. # 300 in 2016, will add an express location inside the MercyOne Health and Fitness Center at 12493 University Ave. March 1.
The new store will operate from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and will be closed on weekends. The express location will offer the same quality that customers can expect at its flagship store, but will cater to a more active customer base.
Fresh sandwiches will be transported from 5 Borough Bagels on University Avenue to the new location, where they will be reheated in an oven and delivered to customers.
Co-owners Toney and Sarah Chem said they look forward to serving clients who work in and out of the building. The new location will be fixed before the reception of the building and open to those who do not work in the center.
“I can’t wait to fill these orders faster because if you go to our bagel store they’re made to order which is great, but sometimes if it’s crowded people often have to wait, ”Toney said. “So it’s this ability for us to deliver the same great food that is executed faster.”
There will also be a few options that are not yet available in the larger location, including smoothies and two new sandwiches – St. Marks and High Line, inspired by places in New York where the couple met and lived. before moving to Iowa.
The St. Marks sandwich will be filled with roast beef, Swiss cheese, spinach, banana peppers and drizzled with mustard. The High Line will be a vegetarian option with sautéed onions, peppers, spinach and mushrooms with balsamic vinegar on ciabatta.
Staple foods like the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich, pastries and cream cheese bagels will also be available at the express location.
Toney said if this location proves successful, the locally owned 5 Borough Bagels could open more stores on the go.
