Basin Bites: Delicias has been serving authentic Mexican dishes for 30 years
ODESSA, Texas (Nexstar) — There are a ton of Mexican restaurants in the neighborhood, but Delicias has been serving its authentic cuisine for more than 30 years.
“Everything is homemade and fresh,” said general manager Rodrigo Chavez.
Chavez’s mother is from Chihuahua, Mexico, and opened Delicias hoping to share the dishes she grew up eating with the community.
“Basically, it’s been the same plates from the start. Same flavor, all homemade. The boss won’t let us change it because that’s what people know us for, for the unique flavor,” Chavez said.
He says the key to their dishes is using all fresh ingredients.
“This has been our main concern from the start. With Covid and rising prices a lot of people started buying frozen food, she didn’t.
The restaurant serves all the classic Mexican dishes you love, but Chavez says they’re known for their soup, especially the beef soup.
“We have a lot of people who like it especially in the winter or for a hangover. We have all kinds of soups and soup combinations.
The beef soup comes with vegetables, potatoes and perfectly tender ribs.
If you visit Delicias, you can also try other dishes his mother grew up eating Chihuahua. Enchiladas montadas are another signature recipe.
“We are doing it from scratch. It’s more authentic with an egg on it. So we lay them flat and unroll them.
The tortillas are stacked flat on a plate and smothered in their homemade red sauce, coated in cheese and topped with a perfectly cooked too easy egg.
