BITS & BITES: Fresh Take opens, Island Orchard gets the honor

Island Orchard Cider Wins Best in Class Gold Medal

Island Orchard Cider’s raw hopped apple cider won Best in Class Gold at the Great Lakes International Cider & Perry Competition, the largest and most prestigious hard cider competition in the world. It attracted 1,351 cider entries from attendees in 19 countries.

Island Orchard Cider competed in the commercial producers division. His winning hopped crude features a blend of apples from his orchard on Washington Island and Cascade hops, also grown in Door County. The result is a lemony, slightly effervescent, off-dry and hoppy hard cider.

In addition to Best in Class gold, Island Orchard’s Apple-Cherry Cider won a gold medal; its Lavender Apple Cider and Raw Apple Reserve Cider won silver; and its apple-ginger cider, ice cider, Kingston black cider, Pomona and Still Beauty have received bronze medals.

Taste these varieties for yourself at the Island Orchard Cider Tavern, Bottle Shop and Production Plant, 12040 Garrett Bay Road in Ellison Bay.
