Café ‘n’ pizza: Chez Klavon is one thing

A Michigan-based pizza brand is touting itself as the supplier of a somewhat unlikely brand new couple: pizza and coffee.

Klavon’s Pizzeria & Pubs owner Justin Klavon has also converted his stores in Jackson (near Ann Arbor) to a supplier of coffee, bagels and drive-through pastries, according to a press release.

The East McDevitt Avenue store – one of the company’s two – now also offers coffees, pastries and bagels from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily using edibles provided by Kibby Cobb Deli. The Klavon’s coffee menu includes everything from Americano and chai latte to cappuccino, hot chocolate and an assortment of teas.

“Adding a drive-through coffee service was a natural fit for our business model,” Klavon said in the statement. “Our team members arrive early in the morning to prepare for the opening of the lunch. So it was just a matter of identifying a coffee that matched our commitment to quality, and we found that partner in Zingerman’s Coffee Company, based in Ann Arbor. “

Klavon’s Pizzeria & Pub is an upscale, casual dining concept with full cocktail service and everything from appetizers to American, Neapolitan, Detroit, and Chicago-style stuffed pizza options. While training with Italian pizza chefs, Klavon learned that espresso-based drinks and pastries are a common breakfast accord in Italy, bringing more synergy to the coffee and pizza combo under one roof.

He is hopeful that the cafe menu will become popular in Jackson and plans to launch a coffee service at Mason Restaurant in the fall.
