To show appreciation for all the police, firefighters and military do every day, Frato’s Culinary Kitchen in Schaumburg is offering a free one-pound slice of pizza to all first responders and serving and retired military personnel on Saturday September 11. . The special is available to walk-in people only, and ID will be required to get a free slice of cheese, sausage, pepperoni, gyro, or the slice of the day.

In honor of Mexico’s Independence Day, Bien Trucha in Geneva, A Toda Madre in Glen Ellyn and Quiubo in Naperville will serve what is known as Mexico’s most patriotic dish: chili peppers in nogada (pepper poblano stuffed with pulled pork, almonds, raisins, pine nuts, peaches and apples topped with a cream sauce made with nuts, pomegranate seeds and parsley) – for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, from September 14 to 18. On Thursday September 16 only, restaurants will be offering a special $ 90 chilli en nogada package including four chilis en nogada, poblano rice and frijoles. Order in advance; packages will be available for pickup at 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday. There’s more: Quiubo and beverage director Patrick Timmis are hosting a margarita, tequila, and mezcal tasting from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 16.
