Its Mardi Gras and the humble crepe got a massive upgrade – in a heart-shaped hanging kebab style.

Upscale restaurant chain The Botanist has brought back its famous hanging kebab pancakes for 2022.

Usually, the restaurant is famous for its tasty hanging skewers, but what better way to celebrate pancake day than to supersize the sweet treat on a spectacular skewer?

The restaurant filled its Instagram with photos of mouth-watering treats like chocolate brownie chunks and hot chocolate sauce, or marshmallow and strawberries with a squeeze of lemon, adding, “To celebrate Mardi Gras, our Hanging specials Pancake Kebab will be making their comeback between February 28-March 2, we are excited. Hurry, once they’re gone, they’re gone.”

Their spectacular American-style pancakes are skewered with fruit, marshmallows and brownies and hung from a special frame to make a stunning display.

They’re finished with a drizzle of chocolate or lemon sauce, with a bowl under the kebab to make sure you don’t waste a drop.

But if you’re not near one of The Botanist’s branches, you can still have fun recreating this spectacular dessert.

All you need are the ingredients, kebab sticks and something to hang them on.

But while we’re all having fun making and flipping pancakes, there’s a serious side to the Mardi Gras story.

For Christians, it marks the last day before Lent, traditionally a period of abstinence, associated with clearing your cupboards of goods such as sugar, fats and eggs.

Pancakes were eaten on this day to consume these foods before the start of the 40-day fasting season of Lent.

Although this day is important in Christian tradition, Pancake Day is widely celebrated by those who are not believers, especially those who love sweets!
