McDonald’s is permanently removing breakfast bagels and wraps from menus

It’s a WRAP! McDonald’s customers are devastated after the fast food chain officially REMOVES bagels and wraps from its breakfast menus across the UK

  • Breakfast bagels and wraps have been off the menu since the pandemic began
  • McDonald’s today confirmed that both items will now be permanently removed.
  • But fans accused the channel today of ‘the worst decision you’ve ever made’
  • McDonald’s cut the price of McMuffins to 99p today to try to soften the blow

McDonald’s customers were devastated today after the chain announced its breakfast bagels and wraps would be permanently removed from the menu.

Fans of the items tweeted crying emojis and said they were the “only breakfast items we ate in this house” and it was “the worst decision you’ve ever made”.

The options were both removed from a new reduced menu when the chain gradually reopened its stores in May 2020 after they were closed at the start of the pandemic.

Many customers hoped bagels and wraps would be reintroduced, but McDonald’s today confirmed they are now ‘officially off the menu’.

The chain, which has around 1,300 outlets in Britain, added it was slashing the price of McMuffins to 99p today via its app to try to soften the blow.

The chain told MailOnline that bagels and wraps were first added to its offering in 2011 and therefore spent nine years on the menu before being removed in 2020.

In a lighthearted 131-word statement meant to read like a celebrity breakup announcement, the channel tweeted: ‘It is with love and deep respect for each other that we announce our parting ways with Breakfast Bagels & Breakfast Wraps.

Despite speculation and after a period of trial separation, breakfast bagels and breakfast wraps will not return to the menu. We adore each other deeply, but our love for the iconic McMuffin was just too hard to ignore.

“We want our fans to know that this is a mutual decision, as a bagel can make their own decision.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported our union. As for rumors that there will be a new breakfast on the premises later this year…no comment. But now is the time to say “it’s over”. And bagels. And the McMuffin is 99p today.

But the news infuriated McDonald’s fans, with one tweeting: ‘I’ve been craving a bagel for the last two years and now it will never be satisfied.’

Another said: ‘Whaaaat! I have been waiting 2 years for the return of the breakfast wrap. It’s the only dish I have for breakfast.

And a third tweeted: “Wraps and bagels were the only breakfast items we ate in this house.

“I haven’t had a maccies breakfast since the pandemic started and now it looks like it will be the last I will have. I hate muffins and flatbreads are even worse.

Another tweeted: ‘Monday you first had the big breakfast (we noticed) now you’re having our wraps, bagels, I know it’s not Blue Monday it’s in my heart.

“Tomorrow, it will be the total elimination of porridge. Does breakfast mean nothing? McMuffins are nothing without the others.

McDonald’s didn’t provide a reason for ending its bagels and wraps offering, but one social media user who seemed to be in the know tweeted: ‘Wraps and bagels used bent eggs, which were pasteurized eggs poured into molds on the grill.

“It was a huge pain in the ass, you could only cook six to 12 at a time. Also, if the sausage is weak, you’re only using half the grill space and the sausage is everywhere.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We can confirm that, following their temporary removal from the menu in March 2020, breakfast bagels and wraps will not be returning.

“We are still working on our menu and look forward to introducing new breakfast items later this year.”
