Porkchop & Co steps up a gear to become Rachel’s Bagels & Burritos – My Ballard
After seven years, the local restaurant Porkchop & Co (5451 Leary Ave NW) made a big change: they changed their name to Rachel’s Bagels & Burritos, now focusing on, you guessed it, only bagels and burritos. .
The owners shared the news of the change on their social media, saying that instead of celebrating their seventh birthday just two weeks ago, they felt a change was in the air.
âWe didn’t say anything about it back then because the timing made us think maybe it was time to do something new,â the owners wrote. âWe have decided to change our name to Rachel’s Bagels and Burritos and stick to our current business model. “
One of the biggest changes for the restaurant will be the final dissolution of its brunch menu. The owners say more menu adjustments are on the way, with earlier hours of operation and a more streamlined layout underway.
Their current menu features a plethora of homemade bagels, including everything, za’atar, sesame, poppy seeds, togarashi, and plain. The spreads include a number of different cream cheese flavors including plain, tarragon, shallot, wild lox, horseradish-shallot, Caesar, and a Dungeness crab spread. For the non-dairy, they have homemade hummus and puppet jam.
Rachel’s bagel sandwiches also run the gamut, with options like The Nick and Nora with avocado and cream cheese; Living at home is such a drag with hummus, maitake mushrooms, al pastor celeriac and mint chimichurri; and Major Briggs with scrambled eggs, ham and tarragon cream cheese.
Their scrambled eggs and potato breakfast burritos also have a strong presence on the menu, with the Raquel (chorizo, cheese, arugula, cilantro, onion and guajillo salsa), the Thomas (pork belly, kale , Mama Lil’s and tomatillo salsa), and the Luis (pasture chicken, grilled onion, arugula, chili guajillo salsa, cheese).
âMy friends, we cannot tell you how much we appreciate the support over the past seven years. Your patience, your warmth and your hungry bellies brought us here, âsay the owners. âAnd we’d be remiss if we didn’t admit to being more than a little nervous about our future as a bagel and burrito store. It’s hard to say goodbye to something that has worked, but we’re really excited for the future.
