There’s a nationwide pancake and waffle mix recall—learn more about the affected products

Cable fragments have just been discovered in pancake and waffle mixes sold in Walmart stores across the country. As a result, Continental Mills has issued a recall for a single lot of Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix and is working with the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and retailers to remove the affected products from shelves. The fragments found in the mixtures are believed to be from a cable used to clean the processing line at the manufacturing plant. Effective March 23, Great Value Buttermilk Pancake & Waffle Mix has been temporarily removed from Walmart online and Amazon. Fortunately, no injuries related to the recalled product have been reported.

These just-added-water mixes have been distributed nationwide, which means shoppers in every state will need to keep an eye out for them. The FDA has announced a number of product recalls in recent weeks, from baked goods to personal care items. A variety of Bantam Classic Bagels is currently being recalled due to exposure to an undeclared egg allergen, which puts those with an egg allergy at risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction. Skincare brand Jergens is also voluntarily recalling the Ultra Healing Moisturizer as 3 oz. and 10 oz. sizes of the product were suspected of being contaminated with Pluralibacter gergoviae, a type of bacteria that can cause infections in people with weakened immune systems, but usually does not pose a significant risk to others.

If you find you have any of the affected pancake and waffle mixes, the FDA advises you to discard the product or return it to the store where you purchased it.
