Vegan Dupe ‘Starbucks’ Egg Bites to launch in US
The “Starbucks” vegan bite-size dupes launched in the United States in March.
Vacuum vegan egg bites, much like the egg bites sold by Starbucks, will launch in March by the company behind JUST Egg, an alternative to bottled vegan eggs.
The plant-based egg bites will be available in grocery stores across the country. California-based Eat Just, Inc. has partnered with Cuisine Solutions, Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer and distributor of vacuum-packed foods, to bring the plant-based product to supermarkets nationwide.
According to a press release sent to LIVEKINDLY, JUST Egg Sous Vide Vegan Bites are prepared in such a way that the food is vacuum sealed and cooked at a low and constant temperature. They will be available in “four unique and distinct flavors inspired by regional cuisines and whole plants.”
Flavors include “America,” which is made from roasted potatoes, dill, chives, red pepper, and black pepper. “India” is made with curry, broccoli, cauliflower, coconut milk and lemongrass.
A third flavor inspired by Japanese cuisine includes portobello mushrooms, yams, togarashi, soy and tamari. The fourth and final variety, inspired by Mexico, includes roasted poblanos, chipotle chili powder, black beans, corn and lime.
JUST Egg Sous Vide bites will be sold in boxes of four in select supermarkets.
What’s in JUST Egg Vegan Egg Bites?
Mung bean protein is the star ingredient in JUST Egg Sous Vide Egg Bites. The plant-based protein is also used in other products of the brand, such as JUST Egg and JUST Egg Folded.
Mung bean protein helps ensure that vegan egg bites are cholesterol-free while containing protein comparable to a conventional chicken egg. In addition, the product is GMO-free, dairy-free and free from artificial flavors. The ingredients in JUST Egg Vacuum Egg Bites also use less water and soil and emit less CO2.
“The Cuisine Solutions team is the best in the world at what they do. We have partnered with them because of their unparalleled expertise and leadership in the vacuum industry and their commitment to making our food system even better. We are excited that consumers are tasting what we are working on“Josh Tetrick, co-founder and CEO of Eat Just, said in a statement.
Felipe Hasselmann, President and CEO of Cuisine Solutions added that Josh’s vision is “Very aligned with the vision of Cuisine Solutions – both organizations seek to make an impact and revolutionize the food industry on a daily basis, which makes this partnership such a natural partnership.“
The “fastest growing brand of eggs”
Along with the upcoming sous vide egg bites, Eat Just offers their popular vegan egg in both liquid and folded formats. This product, launched in April 2019, has become increasingly popular.
Food Diving notes that according to Nielsen statistics from Eat Just, in the 12 months leading up to October 3, 2020, Just Egg was the fastest growing brand of eggs in the grocery store – plant-based and conventional – with growth 367% of sales in dollars over the previous year.
As of October, Just Egg was available at or coming to over 19,000 grocers and over 500 food outlets. Earlier this month, its folded egg patty replaced conventional eggs at famed Chinese fast food chain Dicos.
